Balance isn't static; to achieve it, you have to move, adjust, and change.
Magazines, books, experts, quotes and mantra all include sayings and messages about how important balance is in our daily lives. Then I came across this little saying in one of my favorite magazines "Whole Living" and it got me thinking, what if balance isn't the goal....what if the act of finding balance is the goal. The constant change and adjustment that daily life throws at us, makes it almost impossible to maintain the idea of "balance." I don't want to, nor does it seem possible for me to stay still and for life to stay the same. In fact just the opposite is true. Whenever I think that I have one area in my life in balance, that's the part that gets turned upside down and I am again faced with the idea of re-adjusting and finding a new norm.
Here's a little update in our life since I last wrote. Scott has moved on from the financial field and discovered how much his passion is deeply rooted in helping his father's business. So he is working with his dad doing landscape, sprinklers and retaining walls. He gets to work outside, helping his dad and has never been happier. There is the potential for huge growth and expansion with his dad's business so we will see where that goes. I am still working at the pediatric speech therapy clinic and recently started making plans with my awesome sister-in-law to start a dessert business. Who would have ever thought that this would be where life would take us.
So instead of trying to achieve balance, I think the Koch's are going to attempt to be open to all of God's plans (even plans we would have never dreamed of!) And excited to see all the changes that come our way. Bring it on change, we are ready for you. Here's to desserts, simply sweet, KLASS and retaining walls.
